Ranker just published a fan voted list of the most underrated mummy movies, and Bubba Ho-Tep took the number one spot!
The write up praises Bruce Campbell for giving his aging Elvis real heart instead of cheap laughs, Ossie Davis for keeping it all grounded, and Don Coscarelli for playing Joe R. Lansdale’s story completely straight. Anyone who watches Bubba Ho-tep, the piece says, finds one of the smartest monster movies of the century.
The company is good too. Behind Bubba sit Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy, Hammer’s stylish Blood from the Mummy’s Tomb, the 1932 Boris Karloff classic, Hammer’s brutal The Mummy’s Shroud, and Charlton Heston’s occult thriller The Awakening. Finishing ahead of Karloff on a mummy list is a good day for the King.
This all comes not long after The Wrap AND Dread Central called it the #1 Mummy Movie of all time!
The list is still taking votes, so head over to Ranker and give Bubba a nudge
